So what goes into a quality uPVC window or door?
For starters not all uPVC profiles are the same. The main outer wall of the profile differs in thickness from 2.2mm (CAT C) to 3mm (CAT A). This doesn't sound a lot but the thinner profiles will flex even when made into a frame (and in some cases even when fixed into the opening). Halo profile is category A
Then you have reinforcement, the better quality profile systems use less reinforcement as they have been designed with strength in mind (Halo windows have passed BSI security tests with NO reinforcement). Don't be fooled with RCM (Reinforced Composite Material) reinforcements, these are box sections made using recycled PVC and used to "reinforce" the frame. All the reinforcements we use to reinforce our frames (where required) are galvanised steel.
As for hardware, sadly not much is made in the UK anymore but high quality hardware is still available. Keep an eye out for cheap Far East locks, you can easily spot these as the metal has a gold/yellow finish (the chemical that causes this colour is banned in the EU). We use industry leading hardware from probably the industries well known hardware manufacturers; DGS Group for Friction Stays and Locking systems, Mila for handles, door hinges and letter plates, Winkhaus for door locks and the Brisant Ultion door cylinder. These companies are known throughout the industry for setting the bar on quality and service allowing us to maintain our high levels of customer satisfaction.
